Puffer21 Wrote:Hey thanks for all the info. TestudoGeek how did you attach the two tubes? I would love to make a setup like that.

Actually they're not attached at all. They just sit next to each other. This way the whole enclosure is easier to clean since it breaks appart in two seperate pieces.
With the weight of the rocks, pots and dirt it's impossible for the tort to seperate them.

I also have 1 of my lamp fixtures clamping both sides:

ok thanks again for the info.
also could anyone tell me how old my tortoises is?
??? Just wondering on the age ???
Hi there

it's just a guess really but maybe two years old. I'd say this tortoise is a small juvenile and not a hatchling but its really difficult to say just from the photos. Did you get any papers with the tortoise? Here in the UK you would usualy get CITES papers with a Hermann when you buy and this states the date of hatching on it.
no i didnt get any papers on him at all. so i dontreally know anything about his age.
it is usually very hard to tell a torts age because they grow at different rates. the best you could get is probably an estimated age.
Also heard of Flucker's Digital thermomter and hydrmeter. Is this a good one?
Are the digital ones better than the non digital.
I have both. I love my Fluckes. It is easy to read and I have found they are fairly accurate.
ok thanks.

The one I like is non-digital. Its a hair hygrometer called a Haar-Synth, made in Germany. Its quite cheap (equivalent of $25). The good thing about this one is that you can wrap it in a wet cloth then after a while you can set it to 95% by turning a little screw. After that it is very precise and you can re-calibrate it like this whenever you wish to keep it very accurate. I'm making it sound more complex than it is.

Also you don't need batteries for it. And it can take a reading in 2 minutes.
Personally I like the non-digi ones.
I dont think i have ever seen that one? Is there a link or anything?
Hi there, yes I've used these kinds of hiding places with no problems and I'm quite sure its fine. I also use upside down plastic flower pots with a hole cut in them (to get in and out).

This website sells this hygrometer that I use. Its in the UK but I'm sure they would be happy to supply you.
