Cypress its a wood shaving that is ok, correct?

I'm certain that Aspen shavings are good but I do not know about Cypress.

Here in the UK lots of us use hemp but I believe this word is not acceptable in the US, although the stuff we get for our torts is no use for anything apart from tort and horse bedding.

Also is the underside of his shell supposed to be soft or hard? Its a little soft.

His underside will be softer than the rest of his shell, well my baby's is so I hope so (mine is less than 6 months old though)

Also does anyone know if he is a male or female?

i believe the shell shouldn't be soft.
that's usually a sign of calcium insuficiency.
also, I think he/she is too young to tell the sex.

i feed him a calcium suppliment daily. And its really only the under side.
