Quote:I have two awesome breeding size female russian tortoises. If someone wants to send me a male maybe we can do some kind of breeding loan or trade for future hatchlings.

i don't know how long it will be before i could get hatchlings. or i probably would trade.
My females are at least 10 years in captivity. I have no idea how old they are but they are about twice the size of the ones your usually see for sale. These girls are breeder size. But I can never find a good breeding age male. Probably awhile. My girls are used to the florida weather, and they hibernate every year so they are ready to go. But getting a new male to breed , it could be right away or take a long time. Who knows. I would guess at least one year of getting settled in.
I think the general rule of thumb is females need to be at least 6"
If someone on here is really good with russians and can breed them let me know. MY girls need a male.
My male is ready, just waiting for some bigger girls. My largest is 5" SCL and then I have one that is smaller. I have a pair coming soon and the female is around 7" and the male is around 5", I was just reading in a book I have and it says breeding females are 9" SCL.

Where are you located?

I have a male I could let go to the right person, but I don't know if he's "mature" yet... He is just over 5" tho, so should be coming of age anytime now, he just hasn't shown any activity for me yet (I've had him for several months).

I'm scared to death of shipping tho... don't know if I could do it.
