hi!

since I sent in 4 different threads that my little one is sick I didn't know in which one I should write he is better Smile
So, he is not sneezing for last 3 days and his eyes are not blurry anymore. He is also focusing better, like he comes directly to the food and first bite is rewarded with food in his mouth.

next two weeks I will let him recover from the shoot Smile and then start giving vitamins. I talked with the vet and she said that sometimes one shoot can help so much.

I don't think I need to tell you how happy I am Smile Smile

lights are higher...
thank you for all advices Smile
Thats great!! What shot did they give your little one?? Vitamin A??
I think so Smile
I was so stressed out Smile he is really active these last days, eating as crazy... searching
Thats good, probably needed a big boost!!
Congratulations, glad to hear Kreso is better, Keep up the good work.
glad to know he's doing better
hi!

current status... his sneezing completely stopped and his skin stopped peeling BUT his eyes... everyday something different. first few days he was focusing great but now he is eating air all over again. if I got the vet right that is cause of lack of protein also. I am giving him bananas and eggs but not too often. should I give him piece of banana everyday?
he is eating like crazy which is good. I will start with vitamins in a week Smile

thanks in advance
(and fluo lights are at 25cm from ground)
Edita can you repost a pic of kreso's enclosure?
When the vet stated protein perhaps she was speaking of plant protein. Bananas are high in sugars and I would be sceptical to feed him this. or eggs.
You might want to look up plants that are high in Protein I used Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collard_greens to look up collardgreens and kale

Here are a couple of other sites to look into;

Edita, Robyn is right.

Try to think of it this way: if kreso lived in the wild, where in European Landscape he was born in would he find tropical fruits or boiled chicken eggs?

go for a green & flowery diet (with as much variety as you can), and supplement with reptile calcium powder or limestone flour.
hm... don't get me wrong but at this moment I need to trust somebody... before this he was eating all the green stuff you can find in the wild since he is actually from my country Smile and this vet is actually a specialist for ground tortoises so... if she says for now one egg per week (I should say a little piece) than he will get it. also banana... he is eating really small pieces and he doesn't want more.
I am more concerned about his sight now...

you all know I want to help my little fellow and I am trying to give him all the natural conditions but I need to get to the start line... and right now we are few steps back... Sad
I understand and you have made a good point. You are only doing as your vet has instructed you to. Trust in your vet is important. I know you are concerned with his eyes. That is why I asked you to repost his enclosue pics. Sometimes it might be the bulbs or the distance of them or even a substrate that works for one person does not work for another. You could take him back to the vet or give her a call and let her know whats going on with Kreso. See what her suggestions are. Sorry to hear he has taken those few steps backwards.
I will see the vet tomorrow and I will post the pictures probably tonight. since I've been told about the lights I placed them really high, like the tube is at 30cm from ground and heating light also around 20cm. he has pure moss peat without any additions. temp is always 25C that is also recommendation from the vet cause of his sneezing and humidity is prettly low, around 30% - I was asking if I need to raise it but I got no answer.
the thing that is worrying me is that this problems with his eyes varies. like this morning his eyes are not blurry at all and he is eating really nice, like comes and takes what he wants...
we will see Smile I am a bi relaxed cause I know nothing will happen over night.

thanks again

I believe there's no need to raise humidity of the enclosure.
Hi Edita and I do so much hope that this tortoise is getting better.

I understand that you are taking advice from your vet, but the advice about feeding bananas and any form of meat is quite mistaken. Suitable foods for Hermanns that are high in protein include clover, vetches, sainfoin. Hermanns do not have any metabolism to deal with fruits and feeding these disrupts the gut bacteria. If your vet is suggesting you feed meat to a Hermann then he or she is in a very small minority.

Would be useful to find out if your vet has found or suspected that your tortoise is affected by a certain illness or infection.
meat? if you mean eggs... no, she said nothing about meat. and I am sorry I can't make better arguments but I would rather you all talk to my vet Sad I think his eyes are like this cause of lights cause he has like a flash light and it is not so good for my eyes and especially not his... I am buying a heater so no heating from light anymore
