No, the sphagnum is good but fir is a conifer and not good for herps in general. How old is your rf. If under a year sphagnum alone is a good substrat, hold the moisture well. Over a year a mixture of fine or medium shred cypress or hardwood mulch and sphagnum moss with pure sphagnum moss in the hide works well. http://www.redfoot.com is a good site for care these guys.
If you can find Cypress Mulch, that is the best thing to use for them, I believe.
my rf is a baby, so which one is best for my baby
I'd use sphagnum moss. Lowes carries Mosser Lee long fibre which is a very good product.

Why would you need to change it? Did you learn anything on the 'site?

You don't need to change it as long as you pick out the little poops. If you don't over water it, it should stay fresh smelling. But if it turns sour, then you can change it. Always clean up after your tortoise, everyday, uneaten food, poop, whatever mess he makes. It keeps the habitat clean longer. You will know when its time to change the substrate.

NEVER remove the poop! Since redfoots "digest" their food so quickly they need to re-cycle it so they can get the most from the nutrients in their food. They need to eat their own poop!

You should never have any food left over.. if you do you're offering too much to begin with! One of.. if not the biggest mistake that tortoises keepers make is over-feeding! It looks like pyramiding.. but it's not. When space occurs between the carapace scutes.. that's over-feeding

The moss I prescribe for hatchlings/yearlings is good forever.. nothing will grow in it or on it.. http://www.mosserlee.com/products/lfsm.html

Are we learning anything?
Didn't see the 'poop' thing on the webpage, but it's nice to know you can get the sphagnum moss at Lowe's. Good info.
if it still too dry, can i spray some some water on it or on the enclosure? thx
