I have been working on an enclosure for 2 leopard hatchlings. I have spent several hundred dollars getting everything it/they might need as hatchlings. Hubby thinks leos will be a better fit. We have a large backyard and could accommodate a sulcata. I want a sulcata as I understand they are friendlier. I have a 10x20 garage that could be used for an indoor enclosure in the winter on cold days. Living in south louisina, we don't get many of those. and I was planning on starting out with a 9 x 12 x 16 triangular area for the outdoor enclosure at first.
So 1 sulcata or 2 leopards. I want a tortoise to be interactive with us. I have done tons of research on both. I know the sizes. Does everyones sulcata tear up the yard burrowing? Please help me make a decision.
I personally enjoy my sulcatas more than my leopards. They come running when they see me! Even though they think I am always going to have food - LOL But they come none the less. My oldest ones are 3 1/2, and no burrowing as of yet. We will see what they do this summer in their new enclosure. But they are a pleasure and I really enjoy them.
Take a look at this link, scroll down to Naughty Roseanne. Sulcatas burrow, its not a matter of IF its a matter of WHEN they will start burrowing/digging scrapes.

There is another link that I cant find right now, where a woman talks about her life with a sulcata and the enormously long burrow he dug in their yard. If I can find it I will post it.
Thanks for the posts and advice. I'll let you know what I decide.
