Our little Marley has passed, I am sad to report today. We are not sure the cause, he was fine until a few days ago. He stopped eating and then just had no energy to move. It was terrible.
Does anyone know of any reputable places to get a new baby?

That is so sad. I 'm sorry.
You can try This site. I got my Cherry head and some boxies from ads on here.

Again Nina, I am sorry for your loss. You may want to check out any Reptile shows in your area.

Sorry to hear the news. That was exactly what happened to one of my baby leopards long time ago. In my case I think he may have eaten something that he shouldn't have when I let him roaming in my backyard, and suddenly stopped eating and passed away after only couple of days before I could even take him to a vet.

Where do you live? I think there's a reptile show this weekend in San Diego.
Sorry to hear, try to find a local Turtle and Tortoise Club, maybe you have one in your area. Our club adopts out numerous Boxies and a few tort's every summer, a good percent of them come from people who just don't take care of them. They need good people like yourself to adopt them. I'd look into it. I would personally aquire a little older tort, since babies can be a challenge.
Good Luck,
Tim
I am so sorry to hear about your little Marley!!
Sad Indeed it is very sad. So sorry for your lost. *hugs*
hi im so sorry to see your little leopard has passed away i know how difficult it can be to raise them successfully there seems to be a fine line between poor diet and development and illness i first got hatchlings 12 years ago and had no help or access to the internet to find any.my current hatchlings i keep on an open topped table with Aubiose as substrate they have a large piece of slate under the combi heat and uvb lamp thay are also fed on the slate but not under the lamp i ensure they have a bowl of fresh water large enough for them to get right in and they do this daily and use it for a toilet yuk.of course this means the water needs to be changed during the day .my hatchlings are bathed every day then fed mixed coarse weeds .they spend the afternoon in their outside pen it is under a tree so recieves dappled shade and they have some small plants and a hide for shade.temperatue at night should never drop below 65f and during the day a backgroun temp of 75f is preferred they do bask and the temperature beneath their lamp should be between 90f and 95f max. i hope you are able to get another leopard as i find they are interesting creatures and keeping and breeding them is rewarding.

I'm sorry - that is sad.

But - and I apologize as this may be insensitive - shouldn't you find out what caused his death before you buy another one? What if it was a toxin in his environment?
Give me some examples.
Nina, I am sure everyone here at TFO wants your next tortoise experience to be a happy one. I believe you had Marley about 10 weeks or so Correct? If this is the case it is a good possibility he was already sickly when you acquired him. But to play it safe look at your setup (substrate, lighting, heating, humidity, type of enclosure etc, were ever you placed Marley (outside etc. was it pesticide free, chemical free), if he was handled much was hand washing techniques followed before as well as after picking him up or handling his food or water. An older juvenile, sub adult or adult are usually less delicate than a new hatchling. Yes they may be cuter but they are much harder to raise. Everything is magnified in importance examples food and supplements, lighting (some spiral lights cause problems). Please understand we do not think you caused Marley’s early passing. But it is best to go over everything and make sure everything is right and OK before getting another one just to be safe.

oh , no! I don't think that at all. Believe me, we want out next one to be healthy as well. This is why I had asked for suggestions to maybe point out something else that we have not thought of.
We have been going over everything since the time we brought him home to figure our what we did wrong, either that or like you said, he might have been ill when he came home. I think that might be very possible. He got sick within the first few weeks, we brought him to the vet, she said RI. so he was treated for that. I researched and asked here at the forum about substrate and lights and humidity and food and calcium and all of that stuff and changed things around in his space.
first he had a bedding the sold us at the pet shop, came with bugs, changed him very next day, next put him in on rabbit pellets that were suggested, then I read they were bad, tooo much protein and gets moldy fast, put him in on just some newspaper and different hays and grasses...he then got the RI. Changed him again this time to 30/70 playsand and organic soil. We also changed the bulbs to 10w u.v. and 150w heat lamp and a 150w ceramic lamp to keep the heat up, it was wintery and cold.
we were feeding him turnip greens and dandilion greens from the market and sometimes fresh grass from the outside, which was pesticide free and cut up timothy and a salad mix the vet gave us real small mixed with greens to get it into him other wise he ignored it. He only ate grass outside the one time I took him out there and we do not treat the yard at all with anything. maybe the neighbor does and it seeped over into ours? I guess that is possible.
next time to avoid this I have already purchased organic seeds to grow our own and not chance anything from the market or yard that is not good.
The next thought is the aquarium with the net covering the top. Maybe this time we will prop the lights up another way to point in there but not blocked by that net cover. ????
The humidity was about 40ish 50ish never over 60.
We didn't clean his water dish daily which is something I believe was wrong also, if he did use it as his toilet.....
so many things to think of but investigating to learn more so we keep the next one healthy. It was a terrible feeling to loose him.
thanks for the links, just looking them over

so sad, this sounds like this could have been one of the reasons. his symptoms point in the same direction. He could barely even lift his head. He had a few real hot days where it was unable to get him a cool side. OMG!
Unfortunately our knowledge sometimes comes at a painful price. We all have experienced something like this and have learned from it and gained knowledge. You now know things about the care of this little guys that even the oldsters were not aware of. I'm positive that your next tort will be a much more positive experience. I've watched your trials with him and there nothing you can kick yourself for.
R.I.P. Marley. It's so sad when a pet dies... Sorry for your lose.
