Hi All,
I recently had three of my four Desert tortoises stolen by teens posing as my nephews (my neighbor spotted them and asked who they were, by the time she called us, the boys were gone and so were our tortoises. Luckily, one female, Dipsy, was in the house because she had cut a leg and we were watching her to make sure she didn't get an infection.
This being said, we are looking at adopting at least one more tortoise, a 6-7 year old male preferably but we take any age, size, sex and number!
Is anyone out there that can help us. We miss our babies a lot and my grandkids are devastated and want to know when we can get Dipsy some new friends.

Thanks,
Sorry to hear of your thefts.. Be sure to report it and have other keep an eye out for them to show up.. Were they tagged?

Before you get new ones. be sure to secure your yard if you can. lock the gates? If they came once, they may come back.
Can you install cameras? or even fake ones and post signs...
ddevicariis,
I would be happy to help. I see you live in Riverside .I am in the Inland Empire as you know. My CTTC chapter has quite a few DT of different size and ages up for adoption. I have 2 males up for adoption that are about 8 1/2 lbs. You must fill out a adoption form and submit it to the CTTC. You do not have to join. They will insist on seeing your yard were you will have the torts housed for approval. Here is the site with the adoption form. http://www.tortoise.org/cttc/adoption.html
Look over the website and let me know if you need any help with anything.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. As Laura has stated you must make sure your yard is secure prior to adopting any more or the same thing may happen again. These teens now know where to go to get torts they may be back. Also I would email the nearest CTTC and let them know what has happened. If the torts had any distingusing marks or can be identifed. If someone tries to get them permited they may be able to be identifed and returned to you.
