Okay, I'm getting my new yearling Leo. from Tracy in the next week or two! Time to get his enclosure set up!

For now he'll be indoors in one of those turtle-shaped sandboxes. Please help me get it set up properly. I'm used to housing Russians so I need to know what varies for Leo's. Also exact temps, and foods, please! How deep of substrate? Water??? Do tell! The little guy is about 3.5 " I think (is that right, Tracy?)

Thanks!

:~) Kelly
Hi Kelly,
I currently have Alika in a rubbermade tote. The substrate is aspen with a cool end at about 70-75 and basking at 85-90 degrees.
I'm using a Megaray UVB / heat
I soak him once a week to twice a week.
I have hay/grass in the enclosure but never seen him eat it.
I do have a book you can borrow its by Richard Fife if you want.
My enclosures are very boring compared to yours.

He does recomend a humid hide. I did have one when I first got Alika but Ive never seen him in it ...so I took it out . I did leave a bowl of water in the enclosure that he couldnt get in or tip to add so humidity and he seemed fine with that.
Hope that answered your questionsSmile
Ps I think hes more 2.5 -3 inches
If he wont use a hide, pile long strand sphagnum moss in a corner or on one end of the setup. (well I guess in a turtle shaped sand box just pile it up somewhere lol) Mist it pretty well every few days to keep the moisture up. They will borrow in it. Smile
oh really he's much smaller than i thought! YAAAAAAAAY!

okay sphagnum moss. never bought that before so will have to look around!
thanks girls!
Sphanum moss in bags at the Wal-Mart. Cheap now as it's not garden time!!
