I was looking to switch some of my bulbs as they start to go from the long tubes to the uv/heat mercury vapor bulbs. I have seen the MegaRay spoken of, are there any other recommendations? 100w or 160w? Distance above enclosure? Cheapest place to buy them? Thanks!
I've read of the T-Rex Active UV-Heat bulb mentioned a few times before. I was thinking of doing this myself. But they are a little expensive. I think I will wait until my long tube needs changed.

My understanding is that the tube lights are only effective for approx. 6 months. Where the mercury vapor bulbs remain effective and can last several years. So, as I have to replace them I can also eliminate the need for 2 bulbs.
I use them and wouldn't change back to a strip now. i have the T rex and Hobby sunlux but am going to try out the Megaray as i have heard that they are very good and the decay in them is less than the other brands. Mine are hung at around 12 inches. The wattage you use is up to you but the 100 watt will be cheaper to run.
I checked out both places and picked Reptile Supply as they honored the price at Reptile Depot. And I didn’t have to pay tax in CA. I have had no problems with the lights they were shipped right away and the torts seem to like them. They are 100 watt. I have them set about 12-14 inches above them. I did see a drop in my Electric and am happy as I have gained a few more inside that need lights and the new incubator. I placed the lights on a timer and it has worked out wonderful for me. Oh I did check into Mega Ray but found their prices really high everywhere. I picked the t-rex because of all the research I had done on the MVB and felt it gave me the best for my $$. Just my preference.
