It also definitely sounds like he was kept on a not so good diet after reading all these posts. Like already stated, offer him some "bad" foods or things he will go crazy over but it is very clear that he feels the need for calcium.

Cuttlebone is fine for hatchlings but a fine calcium pwder works best when sprinkled on food.

RE: Cuttle fish addict!

Hi all,
Am going to try feeding him some 'bad' food today as this is now 2nd full day without him eating a thing (apart from cuttlefish of course!) Should i be worried? xxx

I dont think you should worry too much. Try mixing some finely cut up good food mixed in with the "bad" stuff...then you just slowly wean back the bad food. Its hard to do some tough love but its well worth it in the end.

Sorry, I went back and reread the entire post....what temps is he being kept at and do you have a basking spot? Sometimes they slow up on eating when the temps are too cool.

don't be worried yet... i freaked out when my first tort wouldn't eat for a few days, but then she settled in and now she's a piggy. you wouldn't believe how long they can go without eating and still survive. he might just need more time to acclimate himself to his new surroundings!

He has a UVB bulb but because the attachment is a bit high, his basking spot is about 21.5c is this far too low? Am going to set him up in a different place i think...xxx

Like the rest said, don't start panicking yet about him not eating.

Torts do seem to really love their 'maters, but they really aren't the best food for them. Every now and then, but not often. It's nice this time, because it has relieved some of your anxiety about him not eating.Wink;) You are feeling better right?

RE: Cuttle fish addict!

Definatley! He won't be getting them often tho! He's squirted tomato juice on his leaves so hopfully he might eat those now! Have just weighed and measured him and he's 90mm and 120 grammes. He looks healthy and is very active so hopefully i can put my mind at rest now! Thanks for everybody's advice...no doubt i will need more soon! xxx
