Hibernation!!

I have a Hermann who is now 2, the woman who had him before didn't put him into hibernation.
Do they have to be a certain age or size before they can?
Do Hermanns have to be put into hibernation?

RE: Hibernation!!
I've been told they have to be 5 years old, but I know people have done it earlier. I think it's when they are strong/big enough to be able to survive the period. My tortoise is 5 this year and I'm thinking about hibernating him for about a month this year, i'll miss him
That's what I think though, someone correct me if I'm wrong

RE: Hibernation!!
In the wild they do this from hatching. Some torts hatch late in the season and go straight into hibernation and come up just fine the next spring. All of my hatchlings from last summer succesfully hibernated last winter.
Hope this helps
Take care
