humidity

When I first joined this forum I was asked how I keep the Yellowfoot tortoises humid enough to be healthy. I wasn't worried about humidity because I have lots of shrubs and different plants in their enclosure that I have to water every day. But they are kept inside a shed during the winter, and I don't like to get the shed wet because its wood, so that got me to thinking about their humidity in the winter time. They have a water dish inside, but its really pretty dry in there.

A couple years ago I changed out my house's window screens from the aluminum colored ones to black ones. I saved the old screens. So this morning, I took a screen which is about 1 1/2 feet by 5', and placed it over the top of their pig blanket area, supporting the screen on the wooden rails of the inside pen. Then I took an old beach towell, got it wet, wrung it out, and folded it to fit the screen, and placed it on top of the screen. Voila!! A nice moist hiding place for the Yellow foot tortoises!

RE: humidity

Great idea. Keep it simple as my mentor said.

RE: humidity

I'll have to try that out! I've been misting the mulch with a spray bottle which is time consuming for me and annoying for Lois.
