This is my enclosure. My question is with regards to the ceramic heater i have just bought. As you can see the heat bulb is located on the right side, the UV lamp in the middle and the ceramic heater on the left. The heater is connected to a habistat thermostat set to 85 Fahrenheit with the probe in the soil near the hide box. Should this be put on a timer as i want this to be the cool end in the day but provide heat in the night, at the moment it has just turned itself on and is heating up.
The enclosure is getting a revamp, new hide box, some rocks and stones will post some pics when its done.

You could give it a try. One suggestion is I would suspend the probe at about carapace height. This will give you a truer reading of temp for tort.

I would move the UVB light closer to your heat light. Then put the ceramic emitter on a timer so it is only on at night. If the tempatures in your house don't drop down to low then you don't really need any heat on at night. I only have heat on one enclosure at night and that is for my tiny sulcata, the rest don't get any at night, but my house does not get colder then 72 deg.

I agree with Jen and Itort. I try and simulate being outside with my lighting indoors. If the sun is shining on the tort then the heat and light source is coming from the same area. And if the probe is in the substrate it won’t give you the right temp for your tort.
