Just when you think it's over..

the fat lady went to the house - she ain't singin' YET!

My CII Colombian female that I've had since she was a 2" hatchling in Dec. 1998.. and raised by those old "no protein.. no fruit.. low humidity" caresheets back then! Another reason I'm so eccentric about how they are cared for so yours doesn't look like her.. pyramided.

CII usually nests ever 35-40 days. Her last nest was 1/16(?) !
Yesterday she was scratchin' around in the cypress.. so into the nest box she went. I got busy and didn't check on her for a couple hours this evening.. when I did she was "covering-up" her nest..

I set her aside and here's what I found..

Cleaned them up for the incubator..

The drought of '07 has my girls all messed up.. more breeding in their winter quarters than last summer - they don't breed in DRY.. they breed when it rains! [ high humidity ]

Terry, its so obvious you are trying to make sure we don't make the mistakes other before us have made. So our Torts get the best care possible. Duh! I guess CII just wanted to suprize you with a little late action. Wink

Really - congratulations Terry, can't wait to she her offspring. By the way how many days to hatching usually for Redfoots?

Robyn

Thanks Robyn..

Usually 120-125 days. I've had them "pip" in 100 and hatch in 102. And I've had them take 152 to "pip" then finally hatched at 154. Or "pip" in 120 and not hatch for 7 days.. those are the 'trying' ones!

So we could see babies from those eggs by 4th of July or mid-August.. whichever comes first..

It stands to reason doesn't it Danny? No rainy/breeding season= infertile eggs. It looks like the '09 'season' will be early this year. About half of the '08 eggs so far have hatched or "NO-YOLK" to grow.. about 50 eggs and a dozen hatchlings.. Sad

Here we go!

Can you believe this most current hatchling?.. what color is this?

I might have to keep himTongue
