RE: look at Shiro's new growth!

She may be growing a little fast. I'd cut back some on her rations. Do you feed her daily? Mine get about 40 to 50 grams of food everyother day. They also have nite crawlers in the substrat, so they also find these so the get that protein source.

I do feed her every day, i don't feed her much, and on fruit days (2 days a week) she hardly eats anything. she LOVES protein day the most! LOL! she's so tiny, i'd be scared to feed her only every other day, but i can give her smaller portions!

also i was thinking she was a bit on teh small side to start with, but maybe those of you with lots of hatchling experience can say for sure... her hatch date was between may 31 - aug 15 2007 (he only told me a time-frame), and she's 3.5 inches (well she was when she arrived, which was just over 3 weeks ago).

How large is she? My last one is 4" shell length and she looks about that length.

RE: look at Shiro's new growth!

Although there's no real "rule-of-thumb".. from my humble experience.. however about 3" @ 6 months and 4" @ 1 year is real typical. Of course 1 from the same clutch could be a monster and the other small. Best to be smaller and even / smooth growth than fast bumpy carapace.

Kelly that guy is showing-out on colors! And the 'light' lines are exceptional for a "Northern"!

[I'm not trying to 'piggy-back' your thread ] To show what the "Southerns" are capable of - 5+" and almost positive a female..

.. and again keep in mind this is a "Brazilian" - not a "Northern" like yours! Seldom is this seen in a "Northern"!!!

I don't blame you for snatching him up. All that goin' on will stay to some extent.. like I mentioned when we spoke earlier. I imagine the "blotches" on the carapace will stay that rich walnut color as he matures.

Stay on the current feeding regime.. stay with the 2 day greens.. 1 day fruit.. 2 day greens.. 1 day fruit.. 7th day protein only! He'll eventually get used to the fruit.

Bucklebury still has a dark chocolate carapace and is developing that "cherryhead" red head. I'll see about getting a few good pics of him for ya! ( as we wait for spring to arrive )

Here are every year 2 from the 50 hatchling who are also getting the white spts whenn they are growing.
They are allways from the same female(she also produces the albino's).
I have 2 more females and the hatchling from them grow normal.
