RE: planning ahead for spring/summer

In looking for borders for my rock gardens/tortoise/turtle pens Ive come up with the following to choose from. Any of these will be inset with rebar to make them a little more sturdy and will have brick pavers along the inside edge. I also plan on planting lemon grass around the perimeters for a natural mosquito repellent as well as edible food source/shade area and sight barrier for the perimeter walls. Wink I will be bringing everyone in at night since I cant really build much here either due to renting the house. Since I work from home and my office window faces out the back, Im not too worried about daytime predators plus the dog factor on patrol once the torts/turts go out. Smile

RE: planning ahead for spring/summer

Thanks Kelly, Most of the material were really cheap. the most expensive was the boards and I got all materials at Home Depot except for the plant stakes. I found out while planning the pen that two houses away were a family of 3 racoons and a big hawk lives in a tree across the street so I just had to peditor proof my babies. It's worked great they stay out 24/7 from spring to Late fall. And the Racoons have now been removed.

Anja were did you find the bamboo in the second pic?

Kelly I also thought perhaps a Dog run might work for you. I just got one off E-bay and it cost about what I paid to make the pen I have. Now all I have to do is put it together and put boards in the bottom so they cant see out or get themselves stuck. They also come with wire tops and/or shade tops.

Loving any of the 1st five. Really nice look to all. I'm not sure the last two look sturdy enough? Now to go check out the website you gave!

RE: planning ahead for spring/summer

to avoid having to DIG down in the yard, I'm thinking I'll use these and space them every 3 inches or so...

they are definately long enough and will discourage them from digging under, and aren't too costly when you consider you're getting 500 of them!

OMG! That site is terrific Anja!

Did you guys see this?

I just love this look for a small pen. You would have to place pavers or something along the bottom as it is open but way to cool looking.
