so, ive never owned a tortoise before let alone a hatchling, and i was wondering if it was normal for them to sleep for most of the day. im getting a little worried because he is rarely out and about, usually just sleeping in his little burrow or hide. he eat like a champ but just always seems sluggish. he pooped during his bath today but it was a little runny, is that normal? im pretty sure im doing everything right, he has a basking spot of around 95 and the cool end is usually around 75. hes on aspen bedding with a small patch of eco earth and im feeding him romain, red and green leaf lettuce, raddicio and a couple others right now. if im doing anything wrong please correct me =]

How long are your lights on everyday and do you have a UVB light?
Everything else sounds great and he/she is probably just settling in.

im using a mega ray bulb and its on from 8am to 8 pm everyday

Hi,
If your just using the mega ray than you need to add a florscent light to the enclosure for added light. All Testudo like high light conditions. Thats probably why your little one is hiding all the time.
