RE: food options
You are referring to Black Walnut. I found this info on the website:

Quote:Q: What are the ingredients?
A: Para-Zap is a unique combination of several natural ingredients targeted towards specific problems. Two of the main ingredients are wormwood and black walnut. Wormwood has been used medicinally to expel various types of intestinal worms for over 3500 years. Black walnut works against tapeworms, but is included because it's one of the mildest and surest laxatives, causing no nausea, irritation, or pain. The idea is to kill the worms/eggs, and then expel them.

Also, it does kill the parasites. From the website again:
Quote:Q: What does ParaZap do?
A: Para-Zap allows the body to rid itself of parasites. The worms, and their eggs die and are then expelled. It also allows the body to expel undigested protein which is the perfect environment for parasites in the intestinal tract.

I'm not sure why your vet wouldn't agree with ParaZap. I guess if you were to overdo it, it could cause Diarrhea.

Edited: To say that you are correct about Pumpkin. It does help expel worms. I'm not sure how effective it is for a serious case but it does help. I include it in my blends occasionally just for that reason.

RE: food options
No they are not administering a shot. According to them it's orally, they said they put a tube down her throat and give it to her like that. I asked about giving it to her at home, but they refused.

And just a note..I do spot clean her enclosure everyday and completely clean it and changes substrate about every two weeks. I also clean everything in the enclosure. I'm not sure how she got the worms to be honest. Must have had them when I got her. I haven't actually seen any myself.

RE: food options
Yep, it was the black walnut that had her concerned...I am not saying she was right...I would just double check itSmile

I always feel like just because something is natural does not necessarily mean it is automatically safe/healthy...
marijuanna is naturalWink

Did you make the tea or sprinkle it on the food?

Do you know what med they are giving? I agree that if you could do it at home...it would lessen the stress on her.
I did not mean to imply you kept her in a dirty enclosure...sorry...some folks do not realize that a clean enclosure means the tort will get better faster without a recurrance,

RE: food options
They gave her Pancur.

Sorry if my post came off the wrong way. I knew you weren't implying I kept her in a dirty enclosure. I just wanted to make note that I did clean regularly and mostly see if I was cleaning enough.

What doesn't make sense to me is that they were ok with me giving her injections for RI but not giving her something orally.

RE: food options
I suppose they may be concerned about if the tube went in not far enough or slid the wrong way or something that she could aspirate it into her lungs and end up with bigger problems.
I would think the least invasive the better.

I am NOT a VET...this is from published sources, and our own vet...this is not a replacement for professional medical advice.

The traditional doses are:
1x/week for 4 doses, then check fecal.
or
1x every 14 days for 4 doses, then fecal.
or
1x/day for 5 days then wait 10 days and repeat, fecal.

The dosage all depends on the load of parasites and buggers, the animals weight and overall condition etc.

Do you feel ike you can give them a call and ask them to explain their procedure and express your concerns?

RE: food options
I ordered some of the ParaZap last night. Should I just sprinkle it on her food?

Also, I think my girl is constipated, will the ParaZap help this?

RE: food options
Coldliz, I have done it both ways, made a tea and sprinkled it over the food. The good thing with ParaZap is that you can't overdose. .

From Parazap.com:
Bring 2/3 C. of water to boil. Stir in rounded tsp. of ParaZap. Allow to cool. Most of the solids will sink to the bottom. Pour off the liquid. Administer tea with eyedropper or ParaZap's modified syringe so you can gauge how much is being consumed. (ex. 3cc or more for a lizard the size of an adult bearded dragon.) Offer ParaZap twice a day, morning and night.
Important Notes:
Remember! ParaZap is not magical fairy dust and one sip won’t do the job. A continuous flow must be given. It is a little work to do it right, but your pets health is so worth it.
If your pet has parasites, continue regimen for 2 weeks. If using for preventative measures give 5-10 consecutive days each month.
Instinctively, most pets will know ParaZap will be good for them and readily accept it. However, other forms of hydration should be removed if giving the tea, and other sources of food if mixing powder and food.
