Can you tell the Erosa from the Homeanna?
In another thread, you were shown some of the ways to tell which is which. Now is your turn to figure out which animals below are Homes (homeanna) and who are the Erosa. Good luck and have fun!

Norman WHERE do you get your dimes from???? Big Grin Tongue I unloaded from my camera as a med size, rather then the large size I used last time. I ran into problems when sharing with other sites, that they would be too big. Next time I will try to remember to download them large, so an old man like you can still be able to see them. Tongue

RE: Can you tell the Erosa from the Homeanna?
Terry and Candy are correct.

Hmmmm one of my Erosa for the winner? Big Grin Maybe in about 10 years when I have way too many hatchling Erosa running around. Big Grin

Scooter, when we find your CB Homes youngster, it won't look like these guys at all. Hatchling hingebacks don't have the hinge. It starts developing around 3 years of age. As far as the quiz, you were wrong on number 8. It's not as clear as the rest, but look closely and you will see the bump/drop off point starts more in the center of the scute rather then at the beginning, then it really isn't as sharp a drop as a Homes, Plus if you look at the very bottom, see the edges of the carapace are just a bit more pointed? This one was a bit trickier. Wink

RE: Can you tell the Erosa from the Homeanna?
I still don't know which is which...but they sure are COOL looking animals!
Hingebacks are one of those tortoises I have always liked but except for a couple of belliana years ago, never kept. Their track record in captivity was always so bad that I didn't want to deal with them.
But is does seem like the quality of the imports lately is much better than in years past and now numerous keepers are being successful with them.
Regardless, both homeana and erosa are strange and have an alien look to them.

RE: Can you tell the Erosa from the Homeanna?
I looked at the pictures again and can see the differences now, thanks! When I got Scoot she was already an adult, that is very interesting that they don't have a hinge as a juvenile. When do they start to develop their hinge?

About 2-3 years of age. I am working on a thread currently to try to show what they look like before and after. Just waiting for some pictures to come in to me. Wink
