Ok, I've definately got to stop visiting my "local breeder"'s website, because I keep having all these evil thoughts that will eventually earn me a divorce! lol

And now for the old question: are these guys THH?

He has 2 groups for sale. One is labelled TESTUDO HERMANNI BOETTGERI and these are labelled TESTUDO HERMANNI.

I'm really not sure if these are THH, since the coloration is a little different from mine.

If in fact they are THH, they're most likelly from another group, which would be a good oportunity to get a mate for my guy\gal...

Thanks,
T.

RE: These are Western, right?
I can tell you the one with the plastron shot is a THB.

Here is Chris Leone's comparison of the two to help identify.

RE: These are Western, right?
yeah, I agree with you. just hoping I might be wrong.... Rolleyes

well if that one is a THB they must all be THB because they're from the same group.

here are a couple of pics of the other group, advertised as THB:

RE: These are Western, right?
Sorry I was in a rush when I typed that.

Those are Testudo hermanni boettgeri and are by no means western hermann's. They do look like they may be from the Macedonian mountain region due to the intense yellow coloration of the carapace.

You can see clearly on the plastron of these animals that the seam of the pectoral scutes is larger than that of the femoral and the black pigment on the plastron is too faded and inconsistant.

The skin coloration of the head and limbs (on the second batch) is much too dark and the black markings on the carapace on most of them are much different than that of a Testudo hermanni hermanni.

That much I was confident about from your tutorial. Smile

RE: These are Western, right?
I thought they were THB as well, and I feel just slightly smug now that Chriss has identified them. Having said that they are a lovely looking bunch of tortoises, even if they are not my most fav. Apart from the other differences I thought the heads were too stubby to be THH.
