RE: Toxic Plants

Itort I noticed on this list it has PANSY, Viola Listed. I have feed Pansies to my torts and they seem to love them they are also on several lists of edible plants. Any one have comments??? Should I really stay away from pansies???

RE: Toxic Plants

Pansys are just fine Robyn. Big Grin Not sure how they got on the list.
The only thing wrong with most of these lists is they are geared towards mammals and not tortoises.
There are very few plants that have been proven to be fatal or toxic to tortoises.

RE: Toxic Plants

I don't know how viola genus got on here either. I have used violets in salads for years and I'm fine (physicallyat least). There are som plants on this list that can be eaten by some species of tort but not others. If you know of the diet of your tort in nature, then you can make that judgement. There are plants that universally toxic such as pits of prunus genus (peaches, plum, cherries, ect) and juniperus (cedar, juniper)
