Hi Lizel: Where are you located? I'm wondering how you manage to contain a 100lb + monster during the cold weather.

Welcome to the forum!!

RE: Welcome to TortoiseForum.org !

Hello! I have a little Russian Tortoise. "Torti" - I was told by the pet store he was a greek. But Danny say his picture and confirmed he is a Russian. When I did research on Greeks I always wondered why I couldn't find one that looked exactly like him. Now since I know and have been looking at Russians pictures that is him.

We have had him since 10/07. He is the sweetest little man ever.

I look forward to learning more about him.

The nice thing is, what you have learned so far may be about Greeks, but with just a wee tweaking, it's the same for Russians.

Only have the one? Hmmmm that will change fast. Hasn't any body warned you they are like Lay's Potato Chips? Can't have just one. Big Grin

RE: Welcome to TortoiseForum.org !

Hi

I have a male Hermann's tortoise which I've had for around 28 years. Not sure how old he is exactly as I guess he was at least a few years old when we got him.
Would love to get another Hermann's but not sure whether to go for a baby as I wouldn't be able to house them together. Hopefully this forum will be able to give me some advise.

Whizz Hi!!!! Impressive having the Hermann's for so long. Would you really rather have a youngster or an adult? You would need to keep which ever one you got isolated from your existing tort for awhile any how, but yes the youngster would need some growing before it would be really safe for it.

Hi Jacqui
Thanks for the welcome. Would probably be better to get an adult female although they are not as easy to get hold of. Will have to look into it I think.
Thanks again

RE: Welcome to TortoiseForum.org !

thanks for the welcome. I know they are like chips but I already have 1 horse, 2 dogs, 2 hermit crabls, fish, our guinea pigs passed, we are moving in a few weeks, I have already contacted a rescue about adopting 2 more guinea pigs. From what I have read about Russian tortoises is that they can fight. Is that correct? I know that giunea pigs are social and don't like living by themselves are tortoises like that? He loves to eat, I cannot imagine him sharing his food. He is also pretty spoiled. Our guinea pigs had cozy saks, so of course Torti needed one to sleep in during floor time.
