I'm with you Yvonne, Jasso2 will you please explain? And I am not asking to be rude but what age group do you fall into. Seems I may be way, way too old. Wink

Congratulations on taking such good care of him! Do you have him outside?

Thank you! It's very agreeably for me to look after him! He lives outside when I go to the countryside. It's happen only at summer and if the weather is good. Sometimes in the city I let him to go to a balcony, when the Sun shinesSmile

Hello!

I have a 4 yr. old Sulcata male, and a 15 yr. old California Desert Tortoise male. I live in Southern California. I hope this website catches on!!!

Hi, I live in Southern California too! I had a Russian named Buddy for 3 years, but about a month ago he got out of his enclosure and I haven't seen him since Sad Someone told me they found a Russian a week later, but it's not my Buddy, it's a much smaller Russian. They didn't want him, so now he's living here. I think he will be named "George" He's very sociable. I still hope Buddy will return, I look for him, but we have a very large yard with lots of gopher holes, so I am sure Buddy is living underground.

We are moving to Arizona in a few months. I am wondering how Russians do in the hot Tucson sun. Right now I keep the tortoise outside day and night in the summer, and once it starts getting into the 40's or cooler outside at night he sleeps in the garage.

RE: Welcome to TortoiseForum.org !

Hi Maddie: Welcome to the forum. I see no reason why George can't be happy in Arizona. Just provide him with lots of shade and maybe take him inside on those 100 degree days! I bought those little individual misters from the hardware store...the ones that connect up to the hose, and I have one in each tortoise pen. On those really hot days, I turn on the misters. It brings down the temp in that area very nicely.

As you've discovered with Buddy, they are escape artists, so be sure to build him an escape-proof pen. They dig really well, and they push the dirt behind them, covering up the hole so you can't tell where they've been digging.

Yvonne,
Thank you for the quick reply. I am still hoping to find Buddy. My family thinks I am nuts, but there's always a chance! He actually climbed out. I had him in a kiddie pool so he couldn't dig out, and I had refreshed his soil and moved things around and I guess there was on extra shovel full of dirt that enabled his great escape. There is a huge area of open land behind our yard, so I am hoping that even if I don't find him he will be ok out there. I miss the little guy though. George is a cutie, much smaller and very very friendly. Obviously, he's an escape artist too, so I'm watching him closely!
Maddie

Hi Becky: Welcome to the Forum. Russians are very personable tortoises and a great pet. Got any pictures for us?
