Be sure to research different types and look at where you live and what type of space you have. The Groups can help you with this as well. Have fun and enjoy!

RE: where to get one

Welcome Bearfootdaddy,
Josh is right there are so many tortoises in need of a good home. But please do the research first. Which will help you determine what type & size you may want. These precious shelled animals live very long lives and take a long term commitment. They also have varied habitat (heat, substrate, vegitation, humidity) and food needs.
If you are located in California here is one site you may be interested in: http://www.tortoise.org/

Howdy! Welcome. I agree with what you have already been told. The first thing is to narrow done what you like and what you can correctly keep and go from there. Good luck!
