Hi all, was just wanting to know if anyone keeps their young Sulcata's in a wooden type viv with the sliding glass doors on the front ? If so, what do you do about the moisture and humidity affecting the wood ? I'm going to be moving our little guy into one shortly but have just realised that the wood may start to swell because of the humidity.
Thanks.

Please check the "enclosures" section. That will definitely help you.

I haven't used a wooden viv for my tortoises but I have had several of them for my large snakes. I always painted the whole inside with a wooden deck sealant to protect the wood against the moisture and to keep it from absorbing it all.

My closed chambers are wood and I don't treat it at all. Been using some of them for nearly 15 years with no issues.

Thanks for the replies folks. If I go with the sealing option, is there any particular kind of sealant I should use or will any one do ? Just wondering about fumes etc.
Thanks

for our python enclosures we used a deck sealant but i dont remember which one.
there are definitely fumes when you first paint it and while it is curing. we would take the enclosures outside to seal them and leave the enclosure outside to air out for about a week afterwards before putting an animal in them.

I like 6 mil plastic sheeting for the roof and walls and pond liner for the bottom. It's fairly cheap and you don't have to mess will sealants. It also helps if there are any non air tight gaps.
