That is really interesting. I kind of want to see if my redfoots would behave like that.

That's very interesting. I've never seen my elongata ram food like that before - just intruders. I wonder if it's really to help get into the fruit or if it's more for the benefit of the other tortoises. This species seems bigger on 'display' than most. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, I wonder. The one doing the most ramming is a female. She occasionally rams the males when they pester her.

Classic indotestudo. Mere dominance display. Typical for our elongata and forstenii, be careful with that large female ramming even the males. Alpha females in indotestudo can inflict some serious injury even to males. They sure do love papaya though don't they? Have you tried jackfruit yet? They love it as well.

I'll keep an eye on them. Right now they all seem pretty relaxed--no pink noses at present. I look forward trying a jackfruit as soon as it's in season.

Those were your tortoises? I just watched that video on You Tube yesterday. Thank you for posting it, I love watching reptile and invertebrates in captivity displaying natural behavior, they must be feeling good about life.

I'm glad you enjoyed it -- I love watching critters too. I just posted a video their first hatchling this year:

It's amazing how round the babies' shells are compared to the adults. At what age do they start to lengthen out? Also how do you manage a group of them? I hear they can be nasty to each other sometimes.

The babies unfold pretty quickly over the course of a week. I have a large enclosure with plenty of hiding spots and plants -- this seems to keep them from fighting. I keep the males separate during mating season and only put them with the females for a few hours every couple days.
