Reading the news this morning and I came across this.

I guess it's only slightly on topic, but it's not like there is a ton of AST conversation on here.

For me, any AST information is valuable.
Here are some papers that I've read that are informative and interesting reading too. And these papers would add knowledge for any potential keepers as well.
And although it's kind of hokey, visit the site Loggerhead Acres Turtle Farm and watch some of the videos.

Moler, P. E. 1996. Alligator snapping turtle
distribution and relative abundance. Florida Game
and Freshwater Fish Commission, Final Report 7544. 13pp.

Thomas, T. 2013
POPULATION STATUS, DISTRIBUTION, AND HOME RANGE OF THE ALLIGATOR
SNAPPING TURTLE (
MACROCHELYS TEMMINCKII
) IN THE SUWANNEE RIVER,
FLORIDA
Masters Thesis University of Florida

Ewert, M. A., and D. R. Jackson. 1994. Nesting ecology of the alligator snapping turtle (Macroclemys temminckii) along the lower Apalachicola River, Florida. Florida Game and Freshwater Fish Commission, Nongame Wildlife Program Report NC89-020, Tallahassee, Florida. 45pp.

Oh, this one is a MUST read too! Really interesting although it mirrors much of the Travis Thomas MS thesis. The photos alone are worth a look.

I've visited his site, and at one point or another watched his videos. I may have to go back and revisit them though as I can't remember any of the content.

I didn't even read the papers Berkley linked yet, but I will add these to his for my weekend reading.

Cool articles, Carl. Thanks for adding those! I had forgotten that I could just type out the name of the paper I was having trouble attaching here! It is:

Taxonomic assessment of Alligator Snapping Turtles (Chelydridae: Macrochelys), with the description of two new species from the southeastern United States;
Zootaxa 3786 (2): pp141–165
www.mapress.com/zootaxa/

TRAVIS M. THOMAS, MICHAEL C. GRANATOSKY, JASON R. BOURQUE, KENNETH L. KRYSKO,
PAUL E. MOLER, TONY GAMBLE, ERIC SUAREZ, ERIN LEONE, KEVIN M. ENGE & JOE ROMAN
