Any ideas on how to seal the interior of an indoor enclosure to keep the wood from moisture damage? I read water based paint but i was wondering about the rubberized Flex Seal and allow it to cure.

I've wondered about this product myself, but thats as far as I've gotten, wondering. Back in the days that I considered building aquariums using 3/4" reinforced plywood for the back, bottom and ends, the word on the street was any none lead marine grade boat paint wood work. This seems logical to me for an indoor tortoise enclosure.
Myself though figures a waterproof seal of most any EPA approved sealant should work. Even a seal of heavy mineral oil should work if you completely clean the enclosure every 6 months or so.
Let us know what you go with and what your results are.

I would guess once it is dried the hazard would be if the tortoise chewed the rubber...

I've been using the 8oz. Thompsons Water Seal tubes - you just squirt it on a cloth and rub it on the surface you want to protect - I've been doing 2 coats and it has been working so far.

You can pick it up at most hardware stores, and they have clear, or a variety of colors if you want the added stain.

I have used Flex Seal but not for tortoises and it is easy to use and so far has worked on what I used it for.

I've used flex seal on an issue in my garage and it has slightly shrunk and pulled away from the cement.
I use fiberglass resin myself, but it can also de laminate.
How about the old shower curtain as a liner method?

I like it. How big was your enclosure?

It was 32" x 50" and 18" deep. I had about 5 inches of substrate:top soil base, coco coir top and then some Orchid bark in places to provide some different surfaces. Substrate was deeper in areas to give some variation - little hills and gradients for him to climb.

And i based that size on the Thomas the Tank Engine table I had that my son no longer used - justt framed it up with 2x2's, 1x8's for the panel boards, 1x2's for the frame around the mesh fencing - I used 1 5/8" deck screws, and a staple gun to attach the fencing.

We just built an enclosure last week and used Flexseal to seal the bottom. We used 2 full cans for a 4x4 square and allowed it to off gas for 48 hours AFTER the the last coat. So far its working splendidly.

That is great to hear. I will be building over the next month or so, so please keep me up to date.

Here are a few pictures of Truman's new house. We used the Flex Seal on the bottom only which is constructed of 2 layers of plywood.

Kara, what did you use as the enclosure?
I used a raised garden bed that I found on Amazon. It came with 2 4x4 beds that I stacked on each other so it's 18 inches high. It also came with the green house tent which is perfect for holding in the humidity and heat. It's open on the bottom so we had to adhere plywood to it with liquid nail and silicon caulking, which we then Flex Sealed. So far it's working perfectly.
