Hello,

We just got a 2 year old Russian Tortoise. I have been reading lots of threads on monitoring temperature inside his habitat, and this is one of the monitors that was recommended:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013BKDO8/?tag=exoticpetnetw-20

Do you think this is a good one? If you use a monitor such as this to gauge temps/humidity, do you leave it in the habitat all the time? I'm just worried the tortoise will knock it over or it will bother him.

Thanks!

I use that exact model inside my steamy closed chamber and in one of my incubators.
Both have given my several years of reliable service and both still have the original batteries.
Not too shabby for ten bucks!
I ripped off the clip on the back and the plastic "ears", then used velcro strip to mount it to the glass.
24/7 it handles the humidity well.

Thank you, great tip on the velcro! Should I get two of them so I can monitor the basking spot and the cooler spot of his home at the same time?

Over the years, I've used many different Accu-Rite models. They have all worked fine for me. Some last longer than others. They are not "lab grade" accurate, but they are usually close enough for our purposes. Thankfully, they don't carry lab grade accurate prices either.

I use the brand and recommend them but my failure rate is pretty high. Save your receipt. The big box stores are good about replacing them no questions ask.
