My 4 year old leopard, Yoshi, leaves his box whenever he does his business in it. He seldom stays out for long except to eat and drink so whenever I see him walking outside the yard for a long time, that means I gotta clean up. He won't stay inside his box until I clean up all of it completely lol.
He's had this behavior for as long as I can remember, even when I kept him in an indoor enclosure when he was younger.
I think it's cool coz he doesn't want to step on it and get all dirty hehe.
Any other tort out there grossed out by their poop?

Sometimes during the day Charlie will walk into his nightbox just to leave a big messy poop for me to clean up. Sometimes I think he is marking his territory. I don't think he cares whether or not I clean it up. I care though, so it gets cleaned up. I've never seen him eat it.

There was that person who wrote a blog or something saying that she left the poop in her sulcatas' barn for them to nest in. She had some theory that it was more natural that way. Not a person whose advice I would follow.

The instinct to defend your territory is always there. There's no harm in making sure that nobody moves in while you're asleep.
Very true. Although he never sleeps in that hide. But maybe in case the one he is in gets compromised he has another to move into? Regardless it makes it easier for me to clean so I don't mind lol

I don't have torts but i have 2 little boxies. On several occasions during winter soaks i have noticed them inquisitively bite into one of their own turds floating on top, only to immediately spit it out.
I even saw Felter wipe his mouth with the back of his paw afterwards, as if in disgust.

"If you want to benjou
And the benjou is too far
Then benjou in the corner where you are
Where you are,
Just benjou in the corner where you are."

Old World War 2 song.
