We get loads of tiny white bugs, I thought they were springtails. I've actually seen my hatchlings lap them up by sticking there tongue on them.
Btw, once a yr is enough for cleaning out. Some don't even do that. Just spot clean old food and poop daily and you'll be fine.

I thought springtails were mostly white that's why I didn't know what mine were. Found out they can be white, brown etc. Whew! Thank you for cleaning answer. Being new to hingebacks; I've become a little OCD. They have such great personalities.

They are so awesome. When did they hatch and how many? Looks like they are started on the right diet.
These are all between 9 and 11 months old, we hatched 14, we've got 11 plus 5 adults.

The persistence of seeing if they will eat greens continues.

I've had fairly good luck getting my 2 to eat their greens. They are partial to the dark red lettuce and lacinato kale. They usually eat their favorites first, mushrooms, squashes, fruits then in the evening they will eat their greens. Since I only have 2, I put each item in its own place on their feeding dish. They got dandelion greens today and starburst squash. We'll see how they eat those tonight. They really like the hibiscus flowers. Have not stretched their diet too much. Trying to get outdoor enclosure put together. Attached a photo of their feeding dishes.20170406_063457.jpg 20170405_074601.jpg

I just keep putting greens or weeds in, sometimes they nibble on it and sometimes they don't. I've seen them eat, Dandelion, rocket, kale, spinach and dried leaves, that's it. You would think they would eat romaine, but never. I've even tried Boston Fern.
My redfoots love Christmas cactus, don't know why but not thought to try it with the hinges, I'll try that now.

Cool, looks good. I assume there is always shade available.
Obviously I don't need to tell you they can climb good, I put a similar mesh on my outdoor enclosure for the juveniles, I once caught one hanging from the mesh. So I put a half house brick on top so they can't lift it up.

I have a bunge cord across the top. It is attached to a cement block on each side. I used to put house bricks on it until I thought of using the blocks. It keeps it more secure. I have a piece of shade cloth to put over it if it starts to get to sunny. There is always some shade and they have a log hide.

Awesome pictures! I think it is only natural for them to taste things that are in a new environment. They look so goodI've been giving mine Hibiscus flowers to eat. They are blooming everywhere.
I have a 4' x 4' x 6' tall cage I would like to put them in outside. I can also lay it down so it is 4' x 6' x 4' but I'm not sure I can afford to put enough substrate in the bottom. I use coconut coir and sphagnum moss in their inside and small outside enclosures. They like being out but need more room to explore and more objects to maneuver around and over.

Just browsing love this thread and the pics! @Anyfoot has the best natural moss ever lol . ;) I'm looking for live sphagnum moss that I can use to grow my own supply... @Anyfoot Wanna send some to Texas? :D
Love these guys, the adults can be quite shy, but these babies don't give a monkeys, far more active than the redfoots. So comical to watch when they see an insect.

These guys are now around 16 months old. There is some striking colors and patterns coming through now. Not sure the photos show that off very well.

There are 2 that are growing a lot slower than the others. Don't know if there is a problem or maybe they are males, that's assuming males grow slower. Time will tell. With this species males don't grow as big as females.

Nice pictures of your tortoises. They are really growing. How big are they now?
I haven't been on the forum in quite awhile. Life gets in the way.
Here are some pictures of my 2. Seymour is the largest of the two. I measured and weighed them the other day. Seymour is 4 5/8 in long and weighs 233 grams. Otis is 4 1/4 in long and weighs 189 grams. They are approximately 14 mos old.
1st picture is of Otis (top) Seymour (bottom). Pics 2-4 are Otis. Pics 5-8 are Seymour.
