Hey so I know I'm gonna get the whole don't let dogs near tortoises thing. But I didn't do this. I told my cousin to watch Jerome for about 10 minutes while I ran in. I told her to make sure no dogs come near him. She said ok. After I came back outside she was no where to be found and her dog was munching on my tort. She said she thought her dog just wanted to "meet" Jerome. But if you could please help by telling me what I should do and how bad it looks please. Thank y'allSnapchat-1857426515.jpgSnapchat-813386276.jpgSnapchat-2008913882.jpg

Looks pretty bad too me. However, tortoises are very resilient creatures and are capable of surviving terrible injuries.

Try disinfecting the wounds with hydrogen peroxide. After allowing it to dry, apply Neosporin.

To keep all dirt out of the wounds, remove all substrate from the enclosure and temporarily replace it with paper towels. Increase temperature to no lower than 85 degrees anywhere anytime.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Nobody here will judge you for what happend. It was not your fault.
The wound on the back leg looks really bad. I think you must visit a VET with your tort. The sectorial tooth of the dog could have been deep in the body of the tort. Your tortoise needs antibiotics and pain meds. He has much pain, that is sure.
Do you have something to clean wounds ?
I am not so experienced with wound treatment, so I call for help:
@Tom
@zovick
@Yvonne G

Please can anybody help ?

Actually I wouldn't use peroxide. It will sting like crazy on those kinds of open wounds.
Just clean it out good with warm water and apply an antibiotic cream. You can clean it with some betadine but just once. Then keep him on paper towels and raise the over all temps to 85 day and night.

Are there news of your tort ?
Hello everyone. I'm back. I'm sorry for the long time of no updates. I've had a lot going on with college and family but I'm back with good news. Jerome has recovered very well or that's how it seems to me. He's been in his icu cage this whole time. He's still thriving and eating a ton.

Am so sorry to know that your tort was attacked by a dog. You are not the culprit.

Have you taken your tort to a vet? If so, what did the vet say? Please keep us updated.

Wishes for a speedy recovery to your tort.

Yes I have just posted some. They were taken today. They are seemingly better. I will continue to post more updates. After you see the pictures do you think he could go back into his normal tank now?

Wounds still look pretty open and still a little red, which means it is still healing. I would keep him in the ICU tank for a bit longer
