Hi Raymond,

Imported Russians tend to be dinged up from all the scrambling around they do over rocks. Can you post a picture?

We’ll wait for you to have a chance to post a picture but if the spot isn’t soft, it’s probably fine. People ask this question a lot; I sure did when I was new!

Here is the link to my own question about this, I posted a couple of pictures; maybe your tortoise’s dings look like mine. If so, it’s fine. https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/flaking-chipped-shell.143412/#post-1344567

The first picture has an obvious, oval white spot. It’s an old injury where she chipped the shell down to the bone. It’s fine but won’t ever grow back.

The second picture has some lighter damage where a piece had recently flaked off. Also fine.

I’m assuming that you got your tortoise from a pet store. Those tortoises are wild caught, and 4+ years old. During the years in the wild they spend their time banging around against rocks, scratching themselves on hard things, and so on. Not much you can do about it :)

Hi Raymond: I don't think you have anything to worry about. It's probably a minor injury from the hardships of capturing and shipping the tortoise. If he's eating and acting normal, he's more than likely ok.

oh ok so i should not put to much pressure and will it form diffrent once he shed his shell

Tortoises do not shed their shell. It is part of them, and connected to their skin and spine. It will never go away, and is already healed. Can we see a picture? I would get the app if you have trouble with it on the computer.
