Hi,
My Yoshi, Russian Tortoise, we bought almost 1 year ago has gained a ton of weight and has more than doubled in size. At the vet she weighed 1 oz. now I weighed her today and she's 868 grams, I believe that is like 30 oz. She seems to be doing well, eating well, etc. I'm concerned she maybe gaining too much too fast. Her shell is flaking, not off but seems dry and she's not as pretty as a lot of the photo's I've been seeing here. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks a bunch! Cheryl

I don’t know this answer! But I too wonder about my Russians weight. She is 9 months and close to 300 grams. Loved Mazuri! She seems big when looking at others young Russians. Can you post a picture of her?

Hi,
Your baby looks great to me. I was told that since I bought her at Pet Smart she would be about 5 years old and she had all sorts of parasites when we bought her, but she weighed in at 1 oz. It hasn't been a year yet and boy has she grown.

It's obvious Yoshi gained a lot of weight but definitely not THAT much.
1oz is very, very small, not much more than a hatchling. Maybe you misunderstood the vet and it was 10oz? Or maybe 1lbs?

The shell looks perfectly fine in my opinion. Of course the new growth is pale and much smoother (without any growth rings) than the older parts of the scutes, but that can't be helped since he seems to be kept indoors.

That's one of my torts at about 1oz (even though its a Hermanns):

Thank you for your reply. I looked on her paperwork and the vet wrote down 1 ounce, she was pretty little but not as little as yours you showed. Now she's an entire handful, with legs and shell overlapping a hand when held. I'm glad you don't think she looks fine. She hasn't been able to go outside because of the weather, living hear in the Pacific Northwest (Washington State) it's been too cold even in the day. In fact, we're excited today is suppose to be 50 degrees. This summer I'll be able to keep her outdoors more in an outdoor pen, have to be care because we have raccoons that walk our fence. Anyway, thank you so much, I really appreciate your help.
