These girls arrived about a month ago now and made the transition as smoothly as I could have hoped for. Two really solid, long-term captive females. They often sleep during the day near the basking lamp.

The big one is 1150g, the smaller is 860g.

Based on importation paperwork (don't know exactly how old they were when they arrived in 2008), I estimate a hatch date of somewhere around 2004, so 13 or 14 years old.

There are 3 disparate groups of angulata in South Africa. Northern, Western (which includes Dassen Island) and Southern. The largest on record that I know of is a 12" male from Dassen Island. The Dassen island tortoises tend to be larger than the mainland animals. Generally, the max size for males is reported at ~10" and females ~8.5". My largest female is 7.75" now.
