They are not. I debated and decided it would be batter if I could move it around. I will have to take it apart to do it but I would rather have it mobile somewhat.
Thanks that's what I was thinking to do also

Here are some pics of Alex from 2016. These were taken when she started nesting in January The first was taken on 1-8-2016Alexnesting1 8 16.jpgand the second 2 days later on the 10th Alex nesting 1 10 16.jpg She laid 3 clutches that winter at less than 4 years old. This last pic is the one that won her a place in the 2018 TFO calendar. Alex for TFO 2018 Calender copy.jpg Yes they can grow quickly,

Ever notice when they are young their faces are so cute. As they get older they look more like Mitch McConnell. LOL Not being political just an observation and a joke
We got Vlad at 2 years old, so we got the last bit of his baby face and he's now transitioned into the more mature tortoise face [emoji16]

Having a baby is sooooo much work! I leave for work between 5;30 and 6 am, so I have to pick Daisy a weed salad all over the yard with a flashlight and then I’m sweating by the time I leave, Kevin isn’t as as picky as me, I pick the best of the best so when he does it it’s 2 minutes, I’m 10 to 15 and then give her fresh water since she loves to plow through and leave a ton of orchid bark

I agree with the water. Sometimes I think it's a waste of time with the water dish. Like you said Opo will just plow through it and bring in substrate. I soak Opo every day so I am not sure I really need it. I guess it's Opo's way of keeping me busy.

I love this! I see so many different predictions on growth I am kind of nervous. I am taking notes as to how I should document Scouts growth.

Thank you!

Greetings,

I’ve never heard of this “pygmy” but I must have one of them...

I was told my male sulcata was +/- 15 years old but from what I am reading here there’s no way possible.

I measured him from the end of his shell to the longest point of his gular with a straight ruler and he’s about 20” long and 13” wide.

I attached pictures of his scutes for fun. I know that is not a definite way to tell age.

Any thoughts??

wow!! My little Maximus must be a "Pygmy" Sulcata .. he's only grown a little in past 14 months. I'm in no hurry but a little quicker growth would be nice. ;) That's a 6" dish he's sitting in.

Yours might be a female. They tend to grow slower. You usually can't find out until about 5 years. The other thing we think has an effect on their speed of growth is how large of a space they have for a habitat. We just enlarged our habitat about a year ago, and it's incredible how fast she has grown since.

Could be a bunch of different factors. Could be temperature or humidity could also be from whoever raised the tortoise before you got it. Also could be the tortoise Genes or where tortoise came from all tortoises grow at different rates. I have one that is almost 8 lbs that is about 2 years old another that is about a year that I had him but pet store says he was already a year old when I got him which makes him about a 2 years which is barely a pound. So what I am saying as long as the tort is eating well and active (not sick) I wouldn't worry too much. He/she will get big soon enough
