I’m hunting a thermometer/humidity reader that I can put in my Tortoise shed. Does anyone know of one that can connect to my home WiFi and my phone so I can keep track of the temps when I’m not home?

I’m sure there’s something out there but I’m not the most technical person on the block.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

My choice is the SensorPush. It reads by bluetooth whenever you are in range. You download their app on your smartphone and it shows you the temp and humidity as well as the complete history of all the readings in a graph of the last hour, day or week. It stores the data on your phone so you have a history for as long as you keep it going. I have 10 of them in all my enclosures, incubators, and night boxes. All 10 sync to the same app and I name them for reference. I also use their wifi gateway which lets me then see all the live data from anywhere and when I am away or on vacation. One gateway also connects to all 10 of my sensors. As long as your sensors are within range of the wifi gateway, you can monitor from anywhere. I have had them operating for about 2 years now with no issues. However, if you use them where the humidity is constantly 90%+ you may start getting anormal humidity readings. This is an issue with almost any humidity reader you will find as they are not reliable if there condensing humidity inside the unit. I have had to take a couple out and let them dry out thoroughly. They were good to go again, once I did that. I also replaced batteries in about 4 of my units now, which is easy to do as well.

Just search SensorPush on Amazon.

That’s great info Mark, just what I’m looking for! Thank you very much! What is a safe range between the gateway and the sensors? What is the distance between yours? My internet modem is roughly 25-30 yards from where I’ll have have sensors mounted.

I have the SensorPush gateway towards the front middle of my house. So it is reading all sensors through a at least a couple of walls. It has trouble updating my farthest in my backyard that is about 80 ft away but through 7 walls including an exterior stucco wall. The sensor in the sulcata night box is about 40 feet away, through 3 walls and a concrete filled block wall, and has no problem maintaining signal. My gazebo patio sensor is 60 feet away through 4 walls.

You don't have to place the gateway by your internet modem. You set it up to connect by wifi to your modem, and then can place the gateway in a midpoint in your house where it still has a good connection to the modem and is more central to your sensors. Through a normal number of perhaps 4 walls, I would say the max safe range is probably close to 100 feet gateway to sensor.

Thanks Mark! That helps a lot and I think I’ll be plenty close enough to get good readings. I’ll have the gateway set up roughly 20-30 ft from the sensor and through 2 walls and the tortoise shed wall. I’ll keep you posted on how it’s working once it’s set up and functional. Thanks again!
