Nearly got one of those.

Rudicollis is a cool species. The pair we had at the zoo were always angry when you opened their enclosure, but they never attacked or anything, they just sat there and got all puffy and hissed at you. Then when they realized you had food they went bananas. Once they had their food you had to close the door, because they would come looking for more really quick.
My favorite species of Varanus, other than the Komodo we had- but I can't ever have one of those at home, was V. prasinus. If I ever had a monitor species at home it would be prasinus. They are just so cool.

I love the prasinus as well. Melinus is supposedly known for their mellow temperaments, and I plan to spend a lot of time working with this one. Hopefully one of these day I can pair it up with the opposite sex. So far this one is looking female.

So how is he settling in now? More pics please! What’s his name?
She's settling in great. Eats right from my hand and as of yesterday built up the confidence to spend the whole morning basking out in the open.

The sex is not 100% sure, but reasonably accurate. She'll max out at about 3 ft or so. A nice manageable size. I'm looking forward to her getting over the juvenile skittishness.

This little guy is incredibly social. This was literally right out of the shipping box.

Just a quick update. Both are doing great. They eagerly jump right up into my hand when I offer and are very content to climb up and down my arms and over my head. Such fun lizards!

I saw a monitor in a pet store last week and I thought about you... it wasn’t the same as yours but I can’t remember them carrying any kind of Monitors in the past.. I used to enjoy looking at all the different types of animals, but since joining this site, all I can see is babies that need rescuing!!! [emoji18]
