Regretfully looking to rehome our 15 year old male sulcata. Our yard is just too small for him. He is very gregarious and inquisitive, lives outside year round and comes with a heated night box. We live in South Orange County. He weighs about 60 pounds.

TIA

Hello,
I have always loved tortoises/turtles. I have 4 tortoises....a 35 year old male California Desert Tortoise, a 25 year old female Desert Tortoise, an 8 year old female Sulcata and a 6 year old female Russian. I hibernate all but my Sulcata, since sulcatas don't brumate and I'd love for my Sulcata to have a buddy since she'll be lonely while the other three are sleeping. My lot size is approx 9,000 sq ft. My tortoises are very spoiled with love. If you have an Instagram you can check how loved and how much joy they bring me @pepe_samson_the_tortugas

thank you! I looked at your pictures and it is clear you are a tort fan. I am worried however about introducing Moses to your tribe - he is pretty large and has been alone all of his life. I don't know if he would show any aggression/bullying to your torts. I would hate to have anything happen to them. I read that sometimes the bullying can be subtle. We could watch this for a while and see how they do?

That was one question I had for you - if he was a solo tort or had been around others. Now that I know he's been alone, if you'd like we can trial him and see if he fits in and is happy over here. One thing I'll let you know is that all of mine have been rescues/rehomed and they've all come from solo living and they all get along well with each other over here. But of course it just depends on Moses personality

Species should never be mixed.

Tortoise should never be kept in pairs. The only thing worse than putting a male in with a lone female would be putting two males together. The male will likely harass the female to death.

@Debbie S this would not be a good home for your tortoise. Your tortoise might survive it if it isn't infected with a disease from a foreign species, but the other ones likely wouldn't.

Thanks Tamrah - I fear Moses would end up being the BMOC (big "man" on campus) at your wonderful place. He is gregarious in the sense he immediately comes over to me and gets up close for a neck rub. He has a few times acted a little aggressive (butting my ankles - ouch!) but this is very uncommon. At this point, I will keep trying to find a solitary home for him. Thank you so much for offering however.

BTW - his back story is we got him in Temecula at one of those roadside stands that sell ostrich eggs. We thought he was a desert tortoise. It was not until a couple years later and we had prehistoric pets come to do a birthday party at our house that the guy showing the pets told us what we got.

Tom -thanks for your input - I think you helped us by giving us plans on how to build an outdoor heated enclosure (which we did).

Thank you Debbie for letting me know. I hope you find Moses the perfect home that will suit him best. You have the right heart to not just let anyone take him.
