Today is a great day! After his 10AM soak...which ran until 11AM, Arliss got his first go at pumpkin! It was love at first bite! And he stuck with it for about ten minutes...and I got over 400 shots...but three or four should do here! Maybe not!

First bite!

It was hiklarious watching him do battle with this chunk of kernel. IMG_3532.JPG IMG_3535.JPG IMG_3536.JPG

But after working it loose, he went right after it again...managing the right angle to swallow it!IMG_3540.JPG

Look who came to visit...FOR GOOD! Arliss' siblings from multiple females and nests...all 0.0.13 (14 counting Arliss) are F1 hatchlings from the original wild caught imports brought into the States by John Ruiz and Brad Morris. 11.11 of the adults were acquired by ALL THE AQUATICS in Central Florida. A friend of theirs took on 2.3 and two of the smaller hatchlings are from them...but still part of the original herd! I am so wiped from grave shift...working anacondas... and managing ALL these tortoises...that this is simply going to be a photo session! It's unlikely that I will keep individual stats for now...but I will give regular overviews of size range! I am NOT going to create a separate thread...as they are ALL part of the same project!

Obviously, that individual care has given Arliss a headstart over the others!IMG_3793.JPG IMG_3806.JPG IMG_3811.JPG IMG_3817.JPG IMG_3821.JPG IMG_3833.JPG
Arliss is the darker specimen in the background...IMG_3835.JPG IMG_3838.JPG

Most of the time...I'll turn 'em loose on the lawn...but first feeding of the day...at least 4 days a week is this! It consisits of 50/50 Mazuri and milled alfalfa hay...barely soaked...but I let it sit half an hour before I feed it. Basically, we're talking oatmeal consistency!! Once a week or so...I'll pulverize a tuna (cactus pear) and mix it in...the color draws 'em in EVERYTIME...and the flavor keeps 'em there! Sullies and leopards alike will be fed the same thing on any given day!

The runt is the first to sample!IMG_3864.JPG
Final soak before their first night in the chamber...I love how much bigger Arliss is than the rest! Let's see if it stays that way. Tomorrow...measurements and weights!IMG_3873.JPG

They range in weight from 47 to 62 grams! Except for the runt...who is 36 grams...and Arliss, who hit 90 grams today! Remember...they are from multiple moms and nests...so they don't all have the same hatch date! Here are two of them drinking!IMG_3896.JPG
And this is Dom! He saw fit to scale his cave/hide...8 inches tall and no slopes! He scaled it vertically...with no ropes, no spikes...just pure determination!

The Sudans tearing up some endive, escarol and radicchio one day...and pulverized cactus the next! The last shots are their daily Mazuri/alfalfa mix!IMG_4048.JPG IMG_4128.JPG IMG_4053.JPG IMG_4066.JPG IMG_4131.JPG IMG_4141.JPG

Just Arliss this morning! At four months...he's 3.25" and weighs 121 grams...my little butterball. He loves to bury himself in the coconut bark at night (check out the color) while the rest remain on top! Rarely do I see any of the others buried!
