Once I have the time I’m gonna take this to the local nursery so we can put this to rest because I’m way more curious now than I was before!
No, NOT dollar weed, pennywort (Cymbaliara)Goodness, I have to say I agree with Iochroma and not Yvonne. It's not the dollarweed I know, which is Hydrocotle. That dollarweed has a round leaf, no split.
Can't wait to hear what the nursery says.
I never thought I'd ever see this happen, but I'm going to have to disagree with Iochroma. The very first two pictures in the thread show pictures of pennywort, NOT cymbalaria. I have pennywort by my pond. I have cymbalaria in sheltered spots around the house. They don't compare at all in looks.
Yeah there definitely isn’t any flowers on it only thing that’s there is the plant and the chick weed you suggested he can eat...once I get the chance to I’ll take some clippings to the nursery to see if we can get this figured out!One of the problems here is the common name thing. At least 7 species are called "pennywort". Which one do you mean?
I will concede I was not very sure of the Cymbalaria identification, and there are only two species of that genus that I know well.
I am sure it's not Umbillicus, which I do grow. Also, I'm sure it's not one of the many species of Hydrocotyle.
As always, if the OP would be able to post a picture of the flower on the plant in question, it would help immensely in its identification. I know it is November, and we may not see flowers until next year...
