Hey everyone! After the unfortunate loss of my Sulcata hatchling from the dreaded tortoise town, I’ve finally got back on my feet and made a new enclosed chamber for the leopard tortoise I plan to buy from Yvonne and William, I’ve yet to install the UVB light and heat panel, but here’s what I’ve got so far.
-I’m using orchid bark mixed with coconut coir as the substrate, seems to hold humidity wonderful
And I cannot cut holes In the lid but I need to install a basking area In here, do y’all now any fancy gadgets I could use to get a basking bulb in the tub without cutting a hole in the top? Last time I did that, all the humidity escaped out the top

Can you mount the basking light inside and cut a hole in the side of the enclosure just for the cord? This way being on the side, andjist for plug/cord, you can easily plug the hole around the cord and being on the side not much will escape.

Hello. Sorry to hear about your sulcata. I also have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Tortoise Town and a dead leopard tortoise after just having her 3 weeks. (Sorry, but it still makes me upset) As far as your enclosure, if you cant put a hole in the lid, then put one in the side big enough to get the arm for your light stand to go through and then use aluminum foil around the hole to prevent any heat or humidity loss. I use aluminum foil to wrap around the light going into the lid of my tortoise enclosure. Hope this helps! Best of luck with your leopard tortoise!

Hi
I recently purchased a Leopard tortoise
I’m beginning to question the knowledge of the pet store attendant
For substrate he told me to use paper towels to avoid accidental ingestion of the substrate ??

Sounds like you have a very good reason to question them.
