Just wondering if anyone else has the heat source and vbv plugged into an extention cord? They are on a timer plug too. Is it safe?

It is, if your cord is the correct guage rated for more amps than your using. VxA=W

Make sure the extension cord is the right gauge to handle the amps and it is within the proper length. If you google extension cord sizing you need to know amps and length and it will recommend a gauge. I usually upsize the cord just to be safe, and make sure the plugs are not loose in the socket.

How many watts are each of the items plugged in, and how long is the cord?

Personally I won't use anything smaller than 14 gauge for light duty, and I use 12 gauge wire for anything with big pull, like my 700 watt radiant oil heaters.

Okay I'll do a bit of research over the weekend. Thank you for your help.

Copy 14 and higher are essentially for light bulbs, radios, etc. Heaters require 12 to 10 some even state not to use an extension cord so please read the manuel first. Good Luck

You are in UK?

I do have one that's 13 amps, it's surge protected and about 5ft long. Maybe that's better choice? The lamp and ubv are both 3 amps

The 3amps refers to the fuse size on the plugs for those items? I think thats the case, so the actual load is less. 3 amps @ 230v would be a abnormally high for a lamp or uvb.

I think it's a 16 gauge

Should be fine.
