Does anyone know of a cheap a 'security' camera that can live stream to your phone 24/7, has night vision but does not listen to/record sound? So many cameras record sound with the option to disable sound recording within the app, but I wouldn't trust an app to disable the sound and think it will stay like that as hackers can easily turn on the sound recording. Or if you know of a camera that will physically disable sound recording with the push of a button on the camera, that could work too.

Just need a simple always-on camera with night vision that lets me see if my tortoise isn't flipped on their back or not.

It's a legitimate concern. I'm not aware of any cameras that fit that criteria (physical switch to disable the microphone). If you stick with a well known brand I suppose you can just hope that they're honest in how the microphone activation / deactivation works.

I use Ubiquiti G3 and Ubituiqi G3 Flex cameras in my enclosures. They have a software option to disable audio, but no hardware switch. They're not the cheapest but I like them.

I don't understand. $50 all you can get?

You don’t have to understand me. Just go to amazon type WiFi camera. Don’t worry about the network hacking. If someone hacks into your network, it would also hack into all of your electronic device such as your pc and cellphone.

Don't be afraid by hacking, if the hacker wants to use your personnal device the level of protection doesn't really matter.
I really think they will not hack someone without protection just because of lack of interest, but if you have something well protected you should have something to hide... ;)

I use an Arlo Indoor/Outdoor HD 1080p cam in my enclosure. Probably not the cheapest on the market, but I can attest to its performance under high humidity conditions. Very simple to setup and use as well. No wires to get in the way of anything. Has night vision too.

hold on, doesn't using a wifi camera, and especially streaming it online, use up a lot of internet bandwidth? Like I am pretty close to using up all my bandwith every month.

Yes, it can. However, some cams can be set up to only record on movement, and can save the recordings to a local PC. If you have a limited data plan, then remote viewing may not be a formidable option for you. You will need to set it up in a "closed circuit" environment.

You could probably easy physically disable the microphone with a blob of epoxy.
I'll have to remember the one. I'm all for the low tech stupid simple backup version... Says the woman with a yellow sticky note (cut to size) over the webcam I keep disabled and never use. :)

That's actually a good practice.

There’s also a free app called “Alfred” that lets you record on an older device that you don’t use and view on one you do use :)
