What do I do? I currently have a 60 watt uva heat lamp and the 80 watt MVB burned out prematurely because I just bought a 5.5” dome and its not working in it. Started smelling and stopped working. It burned out. Im losing hope as to what to get to work.

I dont know the weather outside where ur located.. but if its warm enough and u can let him outside for a few hrs per week for some sun ..then u wont need a uvb
Well its cold right now im from Philadelphia. I can let him out in the sun in the spring summer when it gets nice but as of right now it is not.
Can a uva/ heat lamp work for now with calcium supplement powder supplement? It has D3 in it

The holes are there for a reason. Those small holes are designed to let the super heated hot air escape which in turn keeps the bulb from over heating & burning out too quickly.

I meant loosely place a strip of tinfoil around the holes so that the heat can still escape

My turtle will have to survive with uva/heat 60 watt right now. Because the bulb broke in not even 20 minutes. And burned out and I went out and got him a deep dome thinking it would be better but it’s not.

I dont want him to get sick. Or die. I think today is my last day of being able to return him if I had too. Im wasting so much money trying to figure out what is right for him and the MVB burned out already, the domes arent good. A deep dome isnt good, what fixture is good then? It seems impossible

Ur dome should work fine . Its rated for 100 watts. Just get a reg 65 watt flood bulb and get the tube with a fixture. Yes owning a tortoise is not cheap

What wattage for the tube fixture? I can work on getting this light eventually for him. But with the virus and being out of work its hard right now.

is this an okay tube fixture to place right on top of my screen?

That would work. You dont have a screen top correct? Because the screen will filter out most of the uvb
