Not sure if this is normal behavior or not but my male has made himself a preferred sleeping area and will carry pieces of food there to munch on later. The female doesn't do this and they are very well fed. They seem to like eating a couple of times a day and all the food is taken out at bedtime. Malcolm just likes to eat in bed.

The male is showing a pretty normal dominant behavior.
I feed my tortoises in several areas of my enclosure because if I don't, my bossy big female will plop her big butt right down in the middle of the pile.
Food "hoarding" is very common.
Every tortoise is out for him or her self. Trespassers aren't appreciated.

And yes.
You should never keep two tortoises together. ESPECIALLY if one of them is a male.

Can a very large, tropical planted area outside (22x15) be acceptable for 2 females of about the same size? I divided their winter house, but had a common tropical greenhouse sunroom. They seemed to do fine, fed in 2 areas/2 homes. I've had one removed to better deal with shell rot, but now it is hot and dry outside so I can control the moisture. So I haven't decided to put them in the same area (fed separately) or I can put 1 in a tropical aviary (6x8) with my diamond doves.

It would be wrong for me to say no. Because I've done this before..
I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that SOMETIMES two REDFOOT FEMALES can be kept together with a very large enclosure.
This only works some times. Not every female is passive. And it only works with Redfoot. If at all.
It's not natural for them.
But in a large enough enclosure, I've seen females ignore each other.
I'm not talking about some small indoor enclosure. I mean something of more than 200 square feet.
