Hi. I am new to this forum. I found today this baby tortoise it was injured (dog bite i think) and i took it home. I put some hydrogen peroxide on the wounds, and then powdered antibiotic. The vets in my country won't treat it considering that is not a domestic animal. Please anyone give me some instructions. I keep the baby in a box and i put a lightbulb to keep it warm. What should i do? I wont post photos here, considering the situation the baby is in.

It’s better for us to see a picture of it, so we have a better idea of what could be done to help.

Second day as this little guy became my roommate. Its wounds don't bleed anymore, and it seems to be moving more (comparing to the day 1). I think it has a chance; tough little guy. If only i could somehow make it to eat something since it hasn't eat anything. Should i serve the food somehow in particular or just put there in the box? I tried cabbage leaves, dandelion leaves, cucumber... but not even a nibble.

This tortoise needs time to heal. Don't worry about it eating. They can go months without eating. Hydration is important, so make sure it has drinking water in a shallow bowl sunk into the substrate, like a terra cotta saucer.

Here is the care info:

He's probably going to make it ok from the injury, but what gets them is infection.

For right now, and until there is no more fresh-looking wound, keep him in a smallish box on newspaper or paper towels. Do you plan to keep this tortoise? Is it legal for you to do so? If so, as soon as everything is scabbed over set him up in a large plastic tub with substrate, plants, water, feeder, etc. so he can start getting used to being captive.

He might not be eating because of the trauma he has suffered and also his new enviornment. I would keep him hydrated with lots of warm baths and leave some grass/weeds in his enclosure so that he can eat if he wants to. I would also offer him a basking warmth lamp (around 70-100Watts) and leave thaton for a good few hours a day so he can bask. Good luck and hope he makes a good recovery.x

The tortoise still doesnt eat at all, but i'm giving it water with a teaspoon and it drinks it. Its eyes are closed all the time i suppose it's from the shock it went through. I got in touch with a reptile vet on facebook, and for now i'm following her instructions. Thank you so much guys, i'll keep you updated.
