Underground is very shady about refunds and returns (i.e basically they'll tell you that as soon at the animal is out of their possession it's your fault if anything happens) so I've gone and opened a dispute with paypal which is under review. I also plan on getting a hatchling from Tom.
Thank you for all the help and advice.

Yeah. Two people just replied with "good." In response to this thread, and had made some dumb troll thread themselves that they were going back and forth on.
Was the troll thread anything related to the yellow bumps or sulcata hatchlings at all? Just curious.

I purchased a leopard tortoise about a year ago from underground reptiles as well, beforehand, I had purchased a softshell turtle from them and everything was fine, he is still doing well. However, when I got my tortoise, it was cold outside, so I expected they would have packaged him much better, when I opened the box, there was a single heat pack and it was nowhere near him, he was almost dead and was barely moving. I called them because I had questions about my tortoise and they gave me very misleading, brief answers. My tortoise is starting to get back on the right track, (I am also a newbie) but I will never purchase an animal from them again! Personally, my experience was terrible and they should have but much more care into packaging him for the ride, the packaging was so careless and reckless it was very disappointing. So I don’t think you could’ve done any better than you were already doing, obviously it was some kind of mistake on their part.

Hello, sorry if this isn't the right spot to post this but im so devastated right now. I got a hatchling Sulcata Tortoise from 'underground reptiles' few weeks ago and thought I was doing everything right up till now. My biggest mistake was I'd assume in being a newbie is that he arrived with a soft shell, which I assumed must have been normal with a hatchling, reasoning that babies are born with soft heads so something similar must happen with baby tortoises... Anyway He was in a 40 gallon filled 1-1 1/2 inches of a mix of coco fiber and potting soil, a large water dish that he could get in and out of as he pleased, two hides (one a by the heat lamp and one in the coolest end of the tank), a lamp with a flat rock under to bask in (around 95-100 and 70-80 on the other end), and a 'sulcata mix' of grasses and clovers growing in the tank him to eat (and trample). He was doing fine but this week he's hasn't been eating as much, then he wouldn't really open his eyes, and just a few minutes ago i went to mist the tank and found him lifeless in the shallow water of his dish... Is there a reason he was so soft and was there anything i was doing wrong??? I was so excited to start my journey with a wonderful lifelong friend but I feel like i've completely completely failed him before anything really started. I would really appreciate some advice and maybe a point in the direction of a better breeder as I don't feel comfortable giving underground reptile money after this experience. Sorry for rambling!
Sorry for your loss. I recently went threw something very similar. Mine ended up being a very contagious reptile bacteria that he already had when I got him and not knowing. I learned a soft shell is from a lack of D3.

Hi
I'm soo soo sorry for you and your little tortie.
I don't know very much but can tell from what you said that you did above and beyond for the little fella and that in his time with you he felt cared and loved in a tortie way.. You did you very best.. And his enclosure is beautiful and excellent for him..
I think you and the little fella have just have a tragedy.. I'm so sad for the little fella losing his chance of a lovely life with you..
It's sounds like what people are saying the pet shop has a reputation for this type of thing. They should be ashamed and stopped.
Poor little tortie without a little formed shell, norty pet shop! They need stopping.
I love the torties little spirit the way he just got on with his business of survival, doing his tortie daily life stuff.... Despite his predicament and outcome, enjoying himself, getting in and out his water, enjoying what bit of life he was given.
Meer! So sweet and heartbreaking...! So lovely he was soo soo loved while he was here.. Blessings to to both.
