my baby sulcata has had what looks like a small scab on his cheek since on got him, but seems to have gotten worse. What could I use to help him heal?

Also, he had a small bump on his skin fold on the back of his neck that kind of looked like a little ant bite. It has gotten bigger and is hard to the touch. Any ideas??

Any help would be appreciated!!!

i have seen what appears to be something similar on 3 other species but we do not know if its the exact same thing yet. we are still working to get as much info as possible. but it is primarily only being seen in sulcata but as contagious as these bumps are i do not doubt it could affect others as well.

From what I have been seeing on forum so far yes. Only Sulcata hatchlings has been showing it. I think we will know more soon when the lab results are in and @mastershake will share it with us.

@shawnateerow Okay, so you're in Maurice, Louisiana. Let's see if we can help find you a reptile veterinarian. (Unless you already have one?)

I don't remember where exactly @Moozillion lives, but she is in Louisiana. I'm hoping she can chime in on thoughts and options. I think she ended up using reptile veterinary expertise attached to one of the universities.

I'm the meantime, I want you to go to the Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians ARAV website at https://arav.org and use their Find A Vet feature (green button at the top) to search for reptile veterinarians near you. Let's see how many options that returns. If that doesn't work, we'll try to get creative.

I found the only one nearly. Wexler in lafayette. They charged me 25 for visit and 55$ fee for the "exotic" exam for Bonnie, one of my other babies who isn't eating. She gave her an antibiotic shot and printed me a pamphlet on sulcata tortoise care. I asked her about feeding her baby food so that she has SOMETHING, and she said let me do some research then wrote half carrot baby food and half water on my printout and wants to see her back in a week. First off, I know not to feed her straight carrots because of all the sugar. Second, I noticed afterward that her jaw is messed up and only one half closes, which I assume is why she can't chew any greens..so I am giving her baby food made of greens, whatever I can find with the lowest sugar..which she is enthusiastic to eat. Long term, im not sure what to do, and if this problem will correct itself, or get worse. As far as any actual knowledge, I don't trust this vet?
@Yvonne G does recommend carrot baby food soaks in certain situations, including for tortoises that aren't eating.

When we find out whatever the results are from the necropsies (hopefully this week), those results should give us SOMETHING to work with. So your veterinarian shouldn't have to figure this out alone. ?

Yo! Fellow Louisianian, here!
The best vet option I know of for south Louisiana is the LSU Veterinary Clinic. It is located in Baton Rouge, and is operated and run by the staff and students of the LSU veterinary school. They treated my mud turtle, they are VERY knowledgable, and were definitely more knowledgable than the exotic vet I had been brining her to in Metairie.
The main number for the vet school is 1 (225) 578-9900
These are the people who train the exotic vets.
I don't think they're really any more expensive than a regular vet.
I was so pleased with the attention and service I got at the vet school, that they are my go-to for whenever I have a sick for injured tortoise or turtle.
Best of luck with your little one!!!
